neighborhood project notes(rogers park)

-rogers park located on the north side of Chicago is the northern most of all the communities.
-bounded by the city of evanston along side juneway Terrance and Howard street in the north ridge boulevard to the west, Devon and edgewater neighborhood to the south and lake Michigan to the east.
-the neighborhood to the west, west ridge was part of rogers park until the 1890's
-Rogers Park area was developed on what once was the convergence of two Native American trails, now known as Rogers Avenue and Ridge Boulevard, predating modern metropolitan Chicago.
-the pottawatomi tribe and many others settled in rogers park from season to season
- indian boundary park in west rogers park reflects on the history as does pottawattomi park near clark and roger ave.
-the name rogers park comes from a pionteer settler and developer Phillip Rogers.
- working and trading with different tribes Rogers soon after bought the land from the tribes for later development
-1830 through 1850 immigrants from luxemburg and germany came to rogers where farming was the main industry
-after world war two some immigrants made their way to rogers, one growing culture that has grown is the hispanic community
-most of the neighborhoods in rogers park has been held within the 49th ward, and under some certain terms the 40th ward was part of rogers park too.

    -two aldermans for the rogers park community are Joe Moore elected in 1991 and is positioned in the 49th ward. our second alderman is Patrick O'Connor elected in 1983 and is positioned in the 40th ward.
